How guide payouts work

How and when you're paid for completed tours, and where to track your earnings.

You earn 80% of the tour price on every booking you complete — Rainbow Tour Guides keeps a 20% commission, and the traveler's separate service fee never comes out of your payout. Here's how the money actually reaches you.

How you're paid

Payouts are sent by our team, by hand, every Wednesday once a tour's 48-hour hold has passed. You choose how you can receive money by adding your payout details: Wise, a bank account with an IBAN, PayPal, Western Union cash pickup, or an international bank transfer. Add every option you have and we'll pay you by the cheapest one. See Set up your payout details for what each option needs.

Transfer fees are paid by you. We always send your full payout, which is 80% of your tour price. Any fee charged by the payment provider or your bank (for example, PayPal's cut or a bank's incoming-transfer fee) is deducted from what you receive. Wise and IBAN transfers are usually the cheapest, which is why we prefer them when you've given us the choice.

A worked example

Say your base rate for a 6-hour tour is $150, and a traveler books it for a group of 4.

  • Your base rate covers up to 2 travelers, so 2 extra travelers add 50% of your base rate each: 2 × ($150 × 50%) = $150 in group fees.
  • Your tour price for this booking is $150 + $150 = $300.
  • The traveler also pays a 10% service fee on top: $300 × 10% = $30, so they pay $330 total.
  • Rainbow Tour Guides' 20% commission is calculated on your $300 tour price: $300 × 20% = $60.
  • Your payout is $300 − $60 = $240 — exactly 80% of your tour price.

The traveler's $30 service fee is never part of this calculation — it's separate from your tour price and never affects your payout either way.

What makes a booking eligible

A completed tour becomes eligible for payout once:

  • The booking status is completed.
  • At least 48 hours have passed since the final day of the tour.
  • The booking isn't under an open dispute.
  • You've added at least one complete payout option.

See Payout timing and holds for the full schedule from tour end to money in your account.

Where to track it

Your earnings, payout history, and a breakdown by booking — including the base rate, any group fee, commission, and payout amount for each one — are all on Payouts. This is the best place to check what's been paid, what's pending, and what's still in its holding period. You'll also see how we currently pay you there. Once a booking is eligible there's nothing else you need to do.
