Promo and referral codes

How to apply a discount code to a booking, what it takes off, and why a code can stop working before you pay.

A promo code takes a percentage off the guide's base price. You can enter one when you send a booking request, or later on the booking page any time before you pay. The discount never touches what your guide earns: it comes out of the platform's share.

Where to enter a code

  • On the booking request form on a guide's profile: click Got a discount code? under your special requests, enter the code and press Apply. You'll see the saving before you send the request.
  • On the booking page under Actions, while the booking is still waiting for the guide or waiting for payment: click Got a discount code?. You can also remove a code there.

If you arrived through a friend's referral link, the code box is already open with their code filled in.

Codes are not case-sensitive and ignore spaces. One code per booking.

What the discount applies to

The discount is a percentage of the guide's base price, group fee included. Your total becomes base price plus the 10% Traveler Service Fee, minus the discount. The receipt from Stripe shows the discount as its own line, so the tour price you see still matches what your guide quoted.

If you pay in a currency other than the guide's, the discount is converted with the same rate as the rest of the total. See Paying in your currency.

Why a code might not work

  • It only works on your first booking, and you already have a paid or completed one.
  • It is limited to a group of people, and your account is not in it.
  • It has expired, has not started yet, or has been used the maximum number of times.
  • You have already used it.
  • It is your own referral code. Share it with friends instead.

The message you see says which of these applies. If a code was accepted but stops being valid before you pay, for example because it expired in between, it is removed from the booking and you are asked to refresh so the price shown is the one you'll pay. You can add another code if you have one.

Refunds and cancellations

If you cancel an unpaid booking, the code is released and you can use it again. Refunds on paid bookings are handled manually by support, and the amount reviewed is what you actually paid after the discount. The Traveler Service Fee stays non-refundable. See Cancel or request a refund.
