Cookies and private browsing

Why the site needs cookies enabled, and how private browsing can affect sign-in.

For travelers and guides2 min readUpdated September 24, 2026

Rainbow Tour Guides needs essential cookies enabled to keep you signed in and to complete sign-in and checkout securely. If cookies are blocked entirely, or your browser is set to clear them automatically, you may get signed out unexpectedly or see sign-in fail silently.

Quick fixes

  1. Check your browser's privacy settings and make sure cookies aren't blocked for this site.
  2. If you use "block all cookies" or a strict tracking-protection mode, add an exception for this site rather than turning it off everywhere.
  3. If you're in a private/incognito window, that's fine for browsing, but know that your session won't be remembered once you close it — you'll need to sign in again next time.

Private browsing: what to expect

Private/incognito windows are a useful way to rule out a stuck extension or old cached login, but they come with trade-offs:

  • Your sign-in won't persist after you close the window.
  • Saved preferences won't carry over between a private window and your normal one.
  • If your browser or an extension blocks cookies even in private mode, sign-in may still fail — that's a separate setting from privacy mode itself.

Why we need cookies at all

We only use essential cookies to keep you signed in between pages and to carry your session through sign-in and secure checkout — not for anything you'd need to opt into separately. Blocking all cookies site-wide doesn't just affect ads or tracking here; it can stop sign-in from completing at all, since there's nothing to remember who you are from one page to the next.

If sign-in keeps failing

  • Confirm cookies are allowed (not just "allowed in this session").
  • Try a private window to rule out a corrupted saved session.
  • Try a different, current browser.
  • Check whether a strict browser privacy mode (sometimes called "Enhanced Tracking Protection" or similar) is set to its strictest level — that can sometimes catch essential cookies along with tracking ones.
  • See I can't sign in for the full list of sign-in fixes.
